Soups and Things has quickly become a favourite.
The soup and sandwich shop, located on Drummond Road just south of Dunn Street in Niagara Falls, Ontario, offers a wide variety of soups, from classics such as chicken noodle or tomato to unique options like lasagna or loaded potato. Some are available every day, others only featured on certain days.
A few months ago, I ventured there for the first time to pick up some wonton soup, and it was really good. It was the only thing I got that day, but I’d been wanting to go back ever since.
I finally did recently and this time got one of their combo meals, opting for the chicken caesar wrap and butternut squash soup. The combo also included a drink and a cookie — I chose peanut butter, one of several options available — all for an incredibly reasonable price of $15 CAD ($16.95 with tax).
The soup was really good. It was one of their featured soups of the day when I went and was ultimately the reason I went the day that I did. It had a similar consistency to leek and potato soup and was well seasoned.
As for the wrap, well, I’ve had many chicken caesar wraps and this was probably the best. First of all, it was huge, which I wasn’t expecting. It was made fresh on the spot, filled with large but still edible-size chunks of chicken (white meat), crispy bacon, lots of lettuce, and the perfect amount of caesar dressing.
The problem with many caesar wraps is there either isn’t enough dressing, making it so dry, or there is way too much, ruining the entire wrap. Not this one. Everything about it was bang on.
They’re open only on weekdays and close by 6 p.m. but it’s absolutely worth finding the time to go.
